NCFAS Research Report

This guide provides a brief history of the development and use of the
North Carolina Family Assessment Scale (NCFAS). The NCFAS is
a practice-based instrument designed to assess ?ve domains of family
functioning (Environment, Parental Capabilities, Family Interactions,
Family Safety, and Child Well-Being). The instrument is designed to
be used in Intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS program or
other time-limited, home-based service programs. The authors discuss
the development of the NCFAS, the scale’s reliability and validity, and
the use of the scale in social work practice.
